UMW BASKETBALL: Eagles use second-half surge to top Bridgewater

Aubrey Howland scored 11 of her team-high 18 points during a 19–3 second-half spurt that lifted the University of Mary Washington women’s basketball team to a 70–50 win at Bridgewater Monday.

UMW (8–3) led just 47–45 with 12:09 to play, but pulled away for a non-conference victory.

Aby Diop added 13 points for Mary Washington, and Massaponax High School graduate Brianne Comden contributed 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Sam Partonen had nine points and six assists.

Heather Cantrell scored a game-high 19 points for Bridgewater (2–8).

UMW returns to Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night at Salisbury.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

UMW (10–1) is ranked 17th in the d3hoops.com Division III poll released Monday. It’s the Eagles’ highest national ranking since 2003.
