UMW ROUNDUP: Balanced Eagles rout Seahawks
Five different players scored goals to lead the eighth-ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team over Capital Athletic Conference rival St. Mary’s College 5–0 in St. Mary’s, Md., Wednesday.
Kathleen Namey, Christine Downie, Ashlin Jones, Jenna Steele and Haley Kane all tallied goals. Christine Loehr and Caitlin Baker added assists and Emily Badis had 11 saves in goal for the Eagles (11–0, 2–0), who host Salisbury University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in another key CAC matchup.
Kaitlynn Wickersham delivered 12 kills while Alexis Cummings and Kayla Crawford contributed nine apiece as the Eagles defeated Southern Virginia 25–18, 25–17, 25–20 at the Anderson Center Wednesday night.
Emma Olson added four kills along with 31 assists while Caroline Porco recorded 16 digs.
The Eagles (12–8, 2–1 CAC) host St. Mary’s on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Mark Brewington’s header got past Eagles goalkeeper Ian Waltz and Christopher Newport made the goal stand up as the Captains defeated UMW, 1–0, Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
Waltz made three saves for the Eagles (8–6, 2–3 CAC), who travel to Penn State–Harrisburg Saturday for a
4 p.m. nonconference game.
