Pro Football: Torrey Smith’s Super Bowl Diary – Day 5

Stafford High graduate Torrey Smith, a Ravens receiver, is writing about his Super Bowl experience for and The Free Lance–Star.

NEW ORLEANS—It’s 9 p.m. and I’m at Drago’s Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar with my fiancée and two little sisters.

I’m about to order the shrimp po’ boy. I do love seafood, and they are real big on it down here.

It’s been a good day [Friday]. We had meetings and practice really early so that left a lot of free time. I’ve enjoyed my siblings and my coaches being down here with me. My mother’s flight lands in about an hour so I won’t see her until later.

Thursday night I took them to the EA Sports party, and my brothers were hanging with New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw the whole night. They met a bunch of guys—Eddie George, Jerry Rice, A.J. Green—but they hung out with Bradshaw all night.

They also went to the Lil Wayne concert and they got to see Big Boi perform. I wanted to make sure they had a good time while I was getting my rest. It was good they were able to experience that, because they don’t get to see stuff like that back home.

[Friday] we had a great practice and then we rode back to the hotel. I showered up and then and my brothers and sisters and I went out for lunch. I had red beans-and-rice and grilled chicken. After that we met up with my high school coaches from Stafford.

They were out eating alligator. They said it was good. I’ve had it before. They’ve been down here just trying a bunch of stuff, but they’re having a good time. They’re everywhere.

After that we all went to check out the NFL Experience. That was cool because there was a bunch of stuff of me. I was on the exhibit for the 40-yard dash. There was a big thing of me running the 40. There was also an imitation locker of mine with a few pictures. It was pretty cool.

They all continued to meet more people there. They met actor Terry Crews, Terrell Davis and Terrell Owens, and they got to see Joe Montana.

I’ve been around all those guys before, except Terry Crews. My family took some pictures. They all had a good time.

I went back to my room and took a nap after we left there, and now I’m at Drago’s.

We have a midnight curfew, but I’m usually in my hotel room by 10 p.m. Tomorrow is going to be different. It’s the night before the game, so I’ll have a small window. I’ll be free from about noon until 7 p.m.

After that, it’s game time.
