GIRLS BASKETBALL

EASTERN VIEW 58, CAROLINE 50

The Eastern View girls basketball team earned a Battlefield District victory behind Ciara Jackson’s 16 points, but the game’s result was overshadowed by a frightening injury sustained by one of its players.

Eastern View’s Lauren Brewer was immobilized and transported to Spotsylvania Regional Hospital after landing face first on the Caroline County High School hardcourt following a collision with a Cavaliers’ player.

Caroline led 41–36 in the third quarter when Brewer went up for a layup and collided with defender Jazmen Moore, who got a hand on the ball. Brewer hit the floor hard and didn’t move, and told attending Caroline trainer Lane Catlett of pain to her neck.

Catlett administered to Brewer while emergency personnel were summoned. The game was halted 30 minutes while EMTs worked on Brewer. She gave her team and the crowd a thumbs-up while being wheeled to a waiting ambulance.

The momentum swung to the Cyclones afterwards. Sherlina Bowles and Taylor Shanks scored 14 points to help pace Eastern View to the win. Hope Toliver led the Cavaliers with 16 points.
