Cold-shooting Eagle women fall to Roanoke

Paxton Gwin scored 22 points to lead Roanoke to a 55–42 women’s basketball win over cold-shooting Mary Washington Monday.

Aby Diop had 13 points and Sam Partonen 12 for the visiting Eagles, who made just 29 percent of their shots and went 2 for 17 from 3-point range.

UMW (9–3) will visit Marymount Wednesday.

Mary Washington (9–3): Aby Diop 13, Aubrey Howland 4, Carol Dye 8, Sam Partonen 12, Erin Drumheller 0 Emily Piazza 0, Amanda Witmer 0, Caitlin Cinerio 1, Claire Haeuptle 4, Caitie Geoghegan 0, Brieneke Matthes 0. Totals: 16 8–10 42.

Roanoke (5–8): Laurel Hankins 8, Paxton Gwin 22, Rachel Dellehunt 7, Kelsey Smith 7, Tatum McKee 5, Kayla Lemke 2, Katie Deacon 0, Hannah Ward 0, Meghan Gadell 4, Dierra Wilson 0, Anna Carter 0. Totals: 19 11–13 55.
