Men’s Basketball: UMW Eagles nip Owls, reach tourney final

Sean Armstrong scored 22 points and Dom Morra added 16 points and four steals in leading the University of Mary Washington men’s basketball team to an 82–81 victory over Keene State College on Friday at the Team Hill Holiday Tournament in Montclair, N.J.
Tied 36 apiece at halftime, the Eagles raced to a 13-point lead to go up, 61–48, with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the contest.
The Owls made a similar run to tie the score at 67 with 6:52 to play, but UMW returned the favor to take a six-point advantage in the next two minutes.
Leading by one at 81–80 with 16 seconds left, Morra hit a free throw. Keene State’s Eric Fazio then went to the line in a final second for a 1-and-1, making the first but missing the second to give the Eagles the win.
Bradley Riester added 20 points before fouling out.
Taylor Johnson had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.
Anthony Mariano led Keene State with 27 points.
The Eagles will face the winner of last night’s late Montclair State–Bridgewater State in today’s championship game at 3 p.m.
