Prep Boys Basketball Roundup: Wolverines reach tourney final

NORTH STAFFORD 72, LIBERTY 54

The North Stafford boys basketball team built a big lead and cruised to a 72–54 win over Liberty in the semifinals of the Scenic America Christmas Tournament played at Liberty.

Jordan Thompson had 15 points to lead four players in double-figure scoring for the Wolverines, who take on Millbrook in tonight’s championship, at 7:45 p.m.

STAFFORD 81, NORTHUMBERLAND 40

Evan Greening scored 21 points for Stafford, which produced 18 assists and 16 steals to defeat Northumberland in the Kettle Run Tournament semifinals.

Da’Shawn Harris added 16 points for Stafford, which plays Kettle Run—a 75–35 winner over Eastern View in the other semifinal—for the championship, tonight, at 7:30 p.m.

Northumberland and the Cyclones play in the consolation game before

the final.

Alonzo Tompkins had 12 points, as three players scored in double-digits for Essex, but Charles City got the win in the semifinals of the Joe Ellis Holiday Classic played at Surry.

The Trojans take on Surry, a 71–58 loser to Jamestown, in tonight’s consolation game.

Nik Stewart scored 21 points for Culpeper as the Blue Devils rallied to take the lead in the fourth quarter, then held off a late bid for the win by Charlottesville at the NBC 29/Daily Progress Holiday Classic.

Culpeper will take on William Monroe, a 76–72 winner over Heritage in Thursday’s last game, in tonight’s semifinals.

ORANGE 67, SPOTSYLVANIA 64

Orange edged Spotsylvania in the semifinals of the Fluvanna Holiday Tournament. The Hornets will take on Fluvanna, which beat Fuqua, 72–46, in the other semifinal, in tonight’s championship.

The Knights will play Fuqua in the consolation game.
