Baseball: Marlins will give Maine a chance

MIAMI—John Maine is hoping to return to the majors with the Miami Marlins.
The North Stafford High School graduate has signed a minor-league contract with Miami and will compete for the fifth spot in its rotation.
The 31-year-old right-hander had a record of 41–36 with a 4.35 ERA, with 35 of the wins from 2004–2010 with the Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets. His best season was in 2007, when he went 15–10 with the Mets.
Maine underwent shoulder surgery in 2010 and hasn’t pitched in the major league since then. In 2012, he went 8–5 with a 4.97 ERA in 16 games for the New York Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes–Barre.
