Riverbend went 2–2 at the Metropolitan Challenge wrestling meet Saturday at Hayfield High School, getting wins over Landon School (48–24) and a composite team (53–15) to claim fifth place. The Bears lost to Archbishop Spaulding (55–6) and Osbourn Park (39–18).
Kyle Krieger (145) won by pin twice and finished with a 4–0 record for Riverbend. Teammates Xavier Darensbourg (132), Kord Krieger (138), Vinnie Pirrone (160), Chris Berrios (182) and Jamie Deason (220) each went 3–1. Alex Miller (152) and Uriah Watkins (170) finished 2–2.

Brandon Gallahan (195) went 5–0, winning all of his matches by pin for Chancellor. Fellow Chargers Joe Cafiero (120) and Mark

Ashley Hinton and Amaiya Carey each won events at Saturday’s meet at the Prince George Sports Complex in Maryland.
Hinton won the girls pole vault with a jump of 11–1, which tied the meet record. Carey won the girls high jump with a jump of 5–4, which also tied the meet record.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
MAURY 55, COURTLAND 35
Courtland suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling to Group AAA powerhouse Maury.
The Cougars were missing two regular starters but kept the game close for a half before the Commodores pulled away after the intermission.
Janae McNeal had 20 points for Courtland, which plays at Chancellor Jan. 4.
