Prep Boys Basketball Roundup: Chargers win on James’ basket

CHANCELLOR 59, CULPEPER 57

After trailing by 13 points in the third quarter, Josh James drove the lane and scored with one second on the clock to cap a second-half rally that gave Chancellor a key 59–57 Battlefield District win over visiting Culpeper on Friday night.

James finished with nine points and 13 assists for the Chargers, who were without Chris Holmes and Chris Patterson—two of the team’s top three scorers—for the game.

Emannuel Royster—normally a reserve player—got his first start and made the most of it, providing solid defense and all eight of his points during the Chargers’ second-half comeback.

“I can enjoy my Christmas now with that win,” Chancellor coach Rob Reich said.

Nik Stewart led the Blue Devils, who lost their first game of the season, with 24 points.

Chancellor will play Deep Run, at 6 p.m., on Dec. 28 in the Colonial Forge Christmas Tournament.

Culpeper takes part in the three-day Daily Progress Tournament beginning Dec. 27.

Stafford rode a balanced attack that saw 11 of its players score in a Commonwealth District victory over Orange.

The Indians outscored the Hornets 19–0 in the first quarter.

Evan Greening and Da’Shawn Harris paced Stafford with 11 points apiece.

Four Colonial Beach players scored in double-digits as the Drifters ousted Franklin.

Montie Gould and Shamar Shanks led Colonial Beach with 13 points apiece, and Marquell Harris and Ethan Harvin pitched in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Drifters return to action Jan. 4 against Rappahannock.

Bradley Anderson recorded a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead Spotsylvania over Courtland.

Travis Mickens scored 18 points, Wayne Hawkins had 13 and Kyle Talley added 10 for the Cougars, who visit Fredericksburg Christian on Dec. 29.

L.J. Durante had four points and seven assists for the Knights, who face Orange Thursday in the Fluvanna Christmas Tournament.

Aaron Alexander added 17 points and five assists for the Eagles, who host Massaponax on Dec. 28.
