UMW Women’s Basketball: Captains frustrate Eagles’ offense

Center Carol Dye led the Eagles, scored 11 points and pulled down five rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the University of Mary Washington women’s basketball team dropped a 51–40 decision to undefeated Christopher Newport in Newport News Saturday night.

In a strong defensive effort by both teams, the two offenses struggled to score, and combined to shoot just 33–110 from the floor.

Sam Partonen had nine points and four assists for the Eagles, while Caitlin Ciniero added eight points.

The Eagles (6–3) face Wilkes University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Tuesday.
