UMW Roundup: Basketball, swimming, track

Sam Partonen scored a team-high 15 points in leading four Eagles in double figures as the 19th-ranked University of Mary Washington women’s basketball team defeated Frostburg State 69–53 in both teams’ CAC opener on Saturday at the Anderson Center.

Mary Washington (5–1) will visit Eastern Mennonite Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Three Eagles reached double figures, but it wasn’t enough as UMW lost its CAC home opener to Frostburg State at the Anderson Center. The Eagles (2–4, 0–1) will visit Gallaudet University Tuesday at 7 p.m.

SWIMMING

Alex Anderson posted an NCAA provisional time of 20.89 in the 50-yard freestyle to take third place at the Gettysburg College Invitational. The men finished third in the team standings, while the women took second.

For the men, the 200 free relay (Anderson, Nick Eckhoff, Vance Solseth and Matthew Garstka) finished third at 1:25.75 and the 400-yard medley (Michael Yelmgren, Peter Slattery, Anderson and Nick Eckhoff) took second at 3:26.83.

For the women, the 400-yard medley relay (Katie Fago, Amber Kerico, Hannah Hagy and Jessica Singer) took third at 4:02.24.

TRACK

Both the men’s and women’s 1,600 relay teams took first place at the Dickinson College Invitational.

The teams next compete at the Father Diamond Invitational at George Mason university Jan. 5.
