Top returners: Girls—So. Ryli Waisanen; So. Kara Wineinger; Sr. Kirsten Garza. Boys—Sr. David Gunnar Timm; Jr. Cullen Monahan; Sr. Andrew Wineinger; Sr. Brandon Sanders.

Outlook: Though both teams lost valuable swimmers to graduation, Rathje thinks there is a lot of talent and they can be competitive in individual and relay events.


Coach: Eric Barnaba

Last year: Girls—Seventh in district. Boys—Eighth in district.

Top returners: Girls—Jr. Colleen Beaver; Sr. Taylor Lee; Jr. Shaye Smith. Boys—Jr. Sam Kauppert; Sr. Matt Halliburton; Sr. Robby Morrison.

Top newcomers: Girls—Sr. Emilee Hill. Boys—Fr. Hayden Michelback; Fr. Pavel Wendt; Fr. Corey Sachs.

Outlook: The Panthers lost 12 seniors to graduation and will be quite a bit younger this year. There is a good group of underclassmen, though, and several of the returners are hoping to qualify for the state meet.


Coach: Michele Golles

Last year: Girls—Fourth in district. Boys—Second in district.

Top returners: Girls—So. Katie Sell; So. Breanna Stuart. Boys—Sr. Daniel Stockner; Sr. Michael Faust; Jr. Conor Roberson.

Outlook: The Wildcats’ girls team is young but talented and should be competitive in the district competition. The boys team is small after losing a bunch to graduation; still, they will have regional and state qualifiers.


Coach: Traci Abramson and Laura Cwick

Last year: Girls—Eighth in district. Boys—Sixth in district.

Top returners: Girls—Sr. Sara Dix; So. Payton Hanson; Jr. Harley Johnson; Sr. Madeline Murray; Sr. Karaline Schmitz; Jr. Katie Tolliver. Boys—So. Cameron Brackmann; Sr. Nolan Faherty; So. Jonathan Fralen; Jr. Jacob Foley; Sr. Austin Lohr; Jr. Matt Morrison; Jr. Chris Peele; So. Logan Ross; Jr. Brian Schieber.

Top newcomers: Girls—Fr. Veronica Andrews; Fr. Madisen Divine; Fr. Tori Ross; Fr. Juliana Salcedo; Fr. Kristin Warren. Boys—Sr. Garrrett Carver; Fr. Noah Prestidge; Fr. Conor Rogan; Fr. Ryan Schmitz.

Outlook: The girls team has grown in strength and size this year, and the addition of some young talent should help to replace graduation losses from the last two seasons. The boys team’s returners have improved and there are some solid newcomers this year—a combination North hopes will lead to postseason gains this year.

Last year: Girls—Ninth in district. Boys—Third in district.

Top returners: Girls—Jr. Larissa Neilan. Boys—Sr. Alex Montes de Oca; Sr. Ryan Hofmann; Sr. John Marquis.

Top newcomers: Girls—Sr. Kristen Cook; So. Olivia Barden; So. Mallory Davis.

Outlook: The Orange girls team has more than tripled in size, and added depth should lead to more success. While the boys team lost some key swimmers, they’ve got strength returning, too. Montes de Oca was a state qualifier in three individual events last year.


Coach: Claire Hagan

Last year: Girls—Fifth in district. Boys—Fifth in district.

Top returners: Girls—Sr. Kayla Brumbaum; So. Nicole Muilenburg; So. Holly Cole. Boys—Sr. Ethan Etter; Sr. Dennis McClure; Jr. Landon Wilcox; Sr. Kevin Naples.

Top newcomers: Girls—Fr. Nikki Reeves. Boys—Fr. Brandon Koch; Fr. Coulton Messick.

Outlook: With former FLS swimmer of the year Brumbaum leading the way, the girls team should be strong. The boys team has been bolstered by new faces and will also push to finish in the district’s top three.


Coach: Jonathan Raymond

Last year: Girls—Third in district. Boys—Ninth in district.

Top returners: Girls—Sr. Liz Kleveno; Sr. Alli Lloyd; So. Kara Sizemore; So. Maggie Howell; Jr. Julianne Rogers; So. Ryan Ulrich; So. Rachel Showers. Boys—Jr. Billy Howell; Jr. Chris Vaughn; Jr. Noah Bey; So. Jon Hill.

Top newcomers: Girls—Fr. Colleen Kleveno; Fr. Gayle Podlesny; Sr. Deanna Friedel. Boys—Fr. Matt Hopkins; Fr. Michael O’Hara.

Outlook: Raymond was an volunteer coach with the program when it started in the 1990s. He returns now as the head coach. The girls team has a strong group, including many year-round swimmers, and should contend near the top of the district. The boys team has good numbers—27 swimmers, including many freshmen.



Coach: Lizza Bambakakis

Last year: Girls—Second in district; Boys—Fifth in district.

Top returners: Girls—Sr. Laura Bradley; Jr. Alexa Collins; So. Laura Wood. Boys—Jr. Colin McKinnon.

Top newcomers: Fr. Amanda Waller.

Outlook: Bradley leads the way for the girls team—she’s a Radford signee. Collins broke four school records last year and Wood is a returning state qualifier.


Coach: Greg Marsh

Last year: Girls—Fourth in district; Boys—Third in district.

Top returners: Girls—Jr. Emily Hybl. Boys—Sr. Nick Koch; Jr. Griffin Mahon; So. Jonathan Pins.

Top newcomers: Girls—Fr. Molly Mansfield. Boys—Fr. Jacob Campbell

Outlook: The Cougars’ girls team was unbeaten during the regular season last year, a feat it hopes to repeat.


Coach: David Hodgson

Last year: Girls—Seventh in district; Boys—Fourth in district.

Top returners: Girls—Sr. Taylor Young. Boys—Sr. Alex Bessette; So. Mason Azais; Sr. Lee Cole.

Top newcomers: Boys—Carter Cole.

Outlook: The boys team, Hodgson thinks, has lots of potential state qualifiers and some new blood that will add depth.


Coach: Melissa Garcia

Last year: Girls—Sixth in district; Boys—Seventh in district.


Coach: Jordan Filchock

Last year: Girls—Third in district; Boys—District champions.

Top returners: Girls—Jr. Noland Butler. Boys—So. Brad Allison; Jr. Peter Stoffel; So. Nye Lott; So. Max Glover.

Top newcomers: Girls—Fr. Gillian Downs; Fr. Maggie Stoffel; Fr. Allison Slominski; Fr. Clara Camber. Boys—Fr. Matt Howard.

Outlook: The Jackets did graduate a large senior class, but there are some promising freshman to help the boys team defend its district title and the girls team to improve its dual meet record.


Coach: Debi Bernardes

Last year: Girls—District champions; Boys—Second in district.

Top returners: Girls—Sr. Katie Barnum; Sr. Taylor Brandts; Jr. Jackie Collins; Sr. Rebecca Liskiewicz. Boys—Sr. Matthew Hunt; Jr. Chase Renz; So. Ricardo Bonilla–Vazquez.

Top newcomers: Girls—Fr. Elizabeth Elizabeth Elia; Fr. Catherine Wilson. Boys—Fr. Matthew Mineor; Fr. Julian Bonilla–Vazquez; Fr. Stephen Hunt.

Outlook: The King George girls team has dominated the Battlefield District over the last decade and has another deep roster this season. Likewise for the boys team, whose run as district champions ended last season.


Coach: Ron Harold

Last year: Girls—Fifth in district; Boys—Sixth in district.

Top returners: Girls—So. Morganne McManus; Sr. Kacey Payne; Jr. Victoria Reynolds; Jr. Miranda Roberts. Boys—So. Collin Buchanan; So. Christopher Cronin; Jr. Sawyer Czarnecki; Jr. Dennis Gill; Sr. Dennis Whelchel; Jr. Nick Polanosky; So. Wyatt Sutherby; So. Nick Wakefield.

Top newcomers: Girls—Fr. Corrine Fizer; Fr. Jessia Matthews; Fr. Hannah McWhirt; Fr. Megan Polanosky; Sr. Amy Robertson; Jr. Sonya Salas; So. Melanie Davies. Boys—Fr. Grey English; So. Eddie Matthews.

Outlook: The Knights have a small roster but Harold is excited with the amount of work they’ve put in so far.

Top returners: Girls—Sr. Kirstie Harry; So. Maya Schattgen; Fr. Kate Zalegowski. Boys—So. Charlie Garbutt; Jr. Jase Davis; Sr. Alex Kangas.

Top newcomers: Girls—Jr. Karley Sullivan; 8th Juliet Whitman. Boys—Jr. Mitch Harrison; 8th Christopher Lucas.

Outlook: Several state qualifiers return but overall the Falcons will be fielding a young team this winter.


Coach: Bob Pleban

Last year: Girls—Fifth in DAC; Boys—Fifth in DAC.

Top returners: Girls—Fr. Courtney Jones; Jr. Mary Kathryn Pressley; Sr. Tessa Pleban. Boys—Sr. Andrew Brown; Fr. Garrett Ross.

Top newcomers: Girls—8th Gracie Paterson. Boys—Fr. David Turbyfill; Jr. Chris Jones.

Outlook: The Eagles have the largest boys roster they’ve had in years, expanding from 11 last winter to 26 this year. That should be a big help. The girls team is small, but a good number of its swimmers qualified for states last year.
