Prep Field Hockey State Playoffs: Chargers advance to Group AA/A final
It’s on to the state finals for Chancellor High’s field hockey team.
Chancellor scored five second-half goals and pulled away from Charlottesville High for a 7-1 win Friday in the Group AA/A state semifinals at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach.
The Chargers will play four-time defending state champions Tabb High (York County) Saturday at 10:30 a.m. If they prevail, it would be Chancellor’s third state championship.
In the Group AAA semifinals, Mountain View High lost in a 2-1 overtime heartbreaker to Frank W. Cox (Virginia Beach) High on Friday. The Wildcats scored a tying goal with 6:39 remaining in regulation. The Falcons punched in the winning goal with 1:01 remaining in the first overtime.
In the other Group AAA semifinal, defending state champions First Colonial High (Virginia Beach) poured in eight second-half goals en route to a 10-0 victory over Stafford High.
In the VISAA Division 2 semifinals, Kirstie Harry scored twice, leading Fredericksburg Academy to a 3-1 win against Carlisle School (Martinsville).
The Falcons will play Foxcroft Academy (Middleburg) at 2:45 p.m. in Saturday’s state championship game.
FA is 3-0 against Foxcroft School this year.
