Prep Football: Eagles finish regular season with victory

FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Fredericksburg Christian football team spent its Saturday doing what its done nearly all season—winning.

Hunter Griffis rushed for 206 yards and a score, and teammate Aaron Alexander scored twice on the ground to lead the Eagles to a 36–6 victory over Atlantic Shores Christian.

The Eagles’ defense actually outscored Atlantic Shores’ offense, as Landon Sharp returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown, and Atlantic Shores got its only points on a kick return to open the second half.

Alexander added a pick of his own.

“The defense played really well,” FCS coach Tim Coleman said. “Cody Goode kind of led the defense today. He had a good day on both sides of the ball.”

Goode scored the Eagles’ other touchdown on a rushing play.

“Our defensive ends did a good job,” Coleman said. “Ben White and Jamie Mason did a good job bottling up their quarterback and keeping him off balance.”

FCS finished its regular season at 8–1 and has a bye week before beginning its VISAA Division 3 playoff campaign.

Coleman said the Eagles will use the week off from a game to study their own film, as they haven’t had much time this season to do self-evaluating.

The inclement weather expected at the beginning of the week will facilitate that.

“We need to clean up some things we’re doing,” Coleman said, adding that his team compiled 11 penalties for 85 yards in Saturday’s win.
