Prep Roundup: Panthers advance to semis

STAFFORD FIELD HOCKEY ADVANCES TO DISTRICT FINAL

MASSAPONAX 3, RIVERBEND 0

Emilee Hill had 13 kills, and Ashley Satterwhite provided 15 assists and 10 digs to pace fifth-seeded Massaponax to a 25–22, 25–23, 25–20 win at fourth-seeded Riverbend in the Commonwealth District volleyball quarterfinals Thursday.

Erica Cunningham added 17 assists, while Sabrina Torres recorded five kills, four aces and five digs for the Panthers (14–10), who travel to top-seeded Albemarle on Tuesday for a district semifinal match.

Leaders for the Bears (12–8) were Miranda Mitchell with 11 digs and nine kills, Rebecca Statler with 12 digs and three aces and Danielle Deiters with 11 assists and three aces.

COLONIAL FORGE 3, MOUNTAIN VIEW 0

Hope Kelley had 12 kills and 10 digs, and Brooke Sanders doled out 28 assists to help second-seeded Colonial Forge get a 25–16, 25–11, 25–19 Commonwealth District quarterfinal win.

Maddie Scovell added 10 digs and three aces, Nori Thomas seven kills and Hannah Brown three, and Jenna Ulizio chipped in 12 digs for the Eagles (19–8), who host North Stafford in Tuesday’s semifinals.

ALBEMARLE 3, STAFFORD 0

Jessie Gatanis had 12 assists for visiting Stafford, but top-seeded Albemarle earned a 25–8, 25–14, 26–24 Commonwealth District tournament quarterfinal win. India Kithcart added five kills and Jen Quintero two blocks for the Indians (7–14).

FREDERICKSBURG CHRISTIAN 3, WAKEFIELD 0

Gabby Vess had 16 kills and Rachel Evans nine digs to help Fredericksburg Christian get a 25–18, 25–12, 25–21 Delaney Athletic Conference home win. Savannah Scott added four aces for the Eagles (13–7, 4–0), who visit Seton tonight.

COURTLAND 3, CAROLINE 0

Seniors Jenna Hendley (eight digs), Brooke Cooper (five digs) and Emily Jordan (five kills and two blocks) led Courtland to a 25–17, 25–5, 25–21 Battlefield District win on senior night.

Bianca Rumbaugh provided 24 assists for the Cougars (18–5, 14–0), who will take on Eastern View in the district semifinals Tuesday.

KING GEORGE 3, JAMES MONROE 1

Lea Howard had 25 assists, four aces and three digs to help King George get a 23–25, 25–17, 25–8, 25–14 Battlefield District senior night volleyball win over James Monroe Thursday.

Other leaders for the Foxes (7–13, 3–11) were Amber Smith with 11 kills, five blocks and five digs; Carley Armentrout had 10 kills and nine digs, Madi Parker eight digs and two aces; and Jessica Swenson with five kills.

FIELD HOCKEY

STAFFORD 4, COLONIAL FORGE 1

Audre Braxton scored two goals to lead second-seeded Stafford to a 4–1 win over visiting Colonial Forge in the Commonwealth District field hockey tournament semifinals on Thursday.

With the victory, Stafford (14–4) advances to today’s championship, where it will face host Mountain View, the tournament’s top seed.

Katie Deuell also tallied a goal and McKenzie Bowler scored off a penalty stroke. Lindsey Lysher contributed an assist and Shannon Fenwick recorded a defensive save.

Amy Dziekowicz scored the Eagles’ lone goal off a Nikki Simpao assist.
