NORTHERN NECK DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP
Washington & Lee swept the boys and girls Northern Neck District cross country team and individual championships held on its home course on Wednesday.
Hudson Hutt won the boys race in a time of 18:09, three seconds ahead of runner-up Ronnie Cutler (18:12) of Lancaster, to help the Eagles to a 23–34 victory over the Red Devils. Northumberland (96) was third and Essex (99) fourth.
Katherine Beddoo (21:40) cruised to a 16-second win over Northumberland’s Sarah Schindler (22:24) in the girls race as W&L ran away for a 21–45 win over runner-up Lancaster (45) and third-place Essex (71).

CHANCELLOR 3, SPOTSYLVANIA 1
Senior Kassie Moeller had 24 digs on senior night to help Chancellor hand visiting Spotsylvania a 25–21, 25–18, 18–25, 25–17 Battlefield defeat on Wednesday.
Shea Sullivan added 22 kills, Shawna Morris eight and Sydney Jackson five for the Chargers (11–12, 10–4).
Leaders for the Knights (11–8, 11–3) were Calli Stott with 12 kills, 13 digs and two aces; Katie Graham with 20 digs and six kills; Caitlin Chmielewski with 25 assists, seven digs, five aces and three blocks; and Courtney Chmielewski with seven blocks and five kills.
The teams will meet again in the district tournament semifinals at King George on Tuesday.
ESSEX 3, COLONIAL BEACH 0
Katelyn Dunaway had seven assists and three digs for Colonial Beach, but visiting Essex took home a 25–11, 25–17, 25–18 Northern Neck District win.
Kora Harris added five digs, four aces and two kills for the Drifters (0–19, 0–9), who visit Washington & Lee tonight.
