UMW Roundup: Poole’s goal carries Eagles

Midfielder Matt Poole scored in the 70th minute to propel the University of Mary Washington men’s soccer team to a 1–0 victory at Virginia Wesleyan College Wednesday night in Virginia Beach.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles found the nets at 69:53 when his shot deflected off the VWC goalkeeper and into goal. In all, The Eagles led the Blue Marlins in shots, 14–12, but Virginia Wesleyan had just one shot on UMW goalkeeper Tyler Back all evening. UMW also held a 9–3 advantage in corner kicks.

Mary Washington (6–5) will host Wesley College on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Capital Athletic Conference match.
