UMW Roundup: Eagles run well at meet

CROSS COUNTRY
Scott Plunkett finished in fourth as the University of Mary Washington men’s cross country team took second place overall at the 40-school Paul Short Run at Lehigh University Friday.
Plunkett, who clocked in at 26:28, was followed by Corey Lyons (27:13, 21st place), Sean Healy (27:26, 28th), Jeff Branson (27:30, 35th) and Julian Menk (27:32, 37th).
Tara Landy (23:50, 99th place) paced UMW as the Eagle women finished 30th in the meet. She was followed by Liz Green (24:22, 152nd place), Lauren Braney (24:24, 156th), Colleen Boyle (24:28, 163rd) and Trinity Smyth (24:37, 178th).
Both teams will compete in the Goucher College Invitational in Towson, Md., next Saturday.
SWIMMING
The Eagles’ men’s and women’s teams swam against Division I competition at the American University Relays in Washington.
The Eagle men took third-place finishes in the 200-yard medley (Thomas Rinaldi, Peter Slattery, Andrew Cole, Andrew Garstka; 1:40.90), the 800 free relay (Nick Eckhoff, Jack McHugh, Andrew Garafolo, Andrew Cole; 7:02.64); the 300-yard backstroke relay (Michael Yelmgren, Eckhoff, Alex Anderson; 2:42.11), and the 200-yard free relay (McHugh, Garstka, Sean Mayer, Anderson; 1:29.04).
The women saw a third-place finish in the 300-yard backstroke relay (Lindsay Ancellotti, Robin Brazier, Meredith Thompson; 3:09.52); a fourth place in the 200 free relay (Tara Banks, Thompson, Jessica Singer, Stephanie Hallock; 1:43.36), a fourth in the 800 free relay (Abby Cox, Brazier, Singer, Alex Parrish; 8:20.82), and a fourth in the 200-yard medley relay (Ancellotti, Amber Kerico, Elizabeth Lewan, Thompson; 1:55.86).
The teams will host Howard University next Saturday at 1 p.m.
