Betsy Carter’s Horse Scene: Performances strong at 4-H championships

At the recent 4–H state championships, local riders came away with great ribbons.

At the recent state show in Lexington, several riders qualified to move up to the Southern Regionals, which will be held next July in Louisiana.

Claire Le Marr rode in the 10–13 age division in Pleasure Pony on Little Bit, which she owns. Claire and Little Bit won the Champion Pleasure Pony title for her age division, and this pair also won the Reserve grand championship over all the Pleasure Pony age divisions.

Ryan Hauth rode Baytovan’s First in Intermediate Hunter. They earned points by placing sixth and seventh over fences and third under saddle against a field of 20 other riders. In the equitation division, this pair placed eighth.

Zoe Lumsden rode Kitt’s Karma in Intermedidate Hunter where they placed second and fifth over fences and fourth under saddle. This pair also placed sixth in the equitation division.

These riders all train with Beth Linton at Woodpecker Farm. In addition to Linton, Zoe Lumsden also trains with Erin Culpeper and Lisa Hammerschmidt.

Before these riders and their horses and ponies made it to the state championships, they had to qualify through the local competitions.

Riders can accumulate points by winning champions or reserve champions at smaller shows, or by going to many shows.

After qualifying from local shows to the state shows, the next phase is to go to the Southern Regionals and then on to Nationals.
