UMW Roundup: Steele, Eagles stay undefeated

Freshman Jenna Steele had a goal and an assist as the seventh-ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team edged No. 9 Catholic 2–1 Tuesday to remained one of five undefeated teams in the nation.
Steele converted a pass from junior Caitlin Baker to give UMW (9–0) a 1–0 lead with 23:11 remaining in the first half. The Cardinals tied the score with 17:11 left in the half on a score from Hayley Wright, but UMW answered just 17 seconds later as sophomore Courtney Rampey scored on a pass from Steele.
UMW goalie Claire Gianelle made eight saves; Megan Comunale had nine stops for the Cardinals.
The Eagles will visit Frostburg State Saturday.
