Prep Roundup: Field hockey, volleyball, girls tennis

North Stafford goalie Tabria Cochran saved five shots in penalty strokes to help North Stafford team get a 1–0 Commonwealth District field hockey win at Orange on Thursday.

After Cochran saved the Hornets’ first shot in the second round of strokes, Sam Barbarczuk converted her attempt to give the visiting Wolverines (2–7, 2–7) the win.

North Stafford hosts Stafford on Tuesday.

FIELD HOCKEY

BROOKE POINT 2, RIVERBEND 1

Katie Veiswanger scored the go-ahead goal on a rebound midway through the final half as the visiting Black–Hawks earned a Commonwealth District win.

Brooke Point scored first as Liz Washington drove in a rebound with 53 seconds left in the first half.

The Bears’ Jessica Liberman answered with a goal off an Avery Warner assist in the second half before Veiswanger delivered the game’s final tally.

Maddie Davis was strong in goal for Brooke Point (6–2, 6–2), which hosts Massaponax on Tuesday.

Riverbend (2–5, 2–5) hosts Stafford on Monday.

STAFFORD 6, MASSAPONAX 0

Audrey Braxton had two goals and an assist, and Gail Podlesny also scored twice to help homestanding Stafford get a Commonwealth District win.

Brooke Harmon and Katie Deuell also scored, while Cassie Hooghouse (two), Lindsey Lysher and McKenzie Bowler provided assists for the Indians (5–3, 5–3), who visit Riverbend on Monday.

COURTLAND 2, KING GEORGE 0

Emily Zaluzney and Katie Quinn each had a goal to help Courtland get a Battlefield District home win.

Goalie Claire King registered five saves for the Cougars (6–2, 4–2), who visit Caroline on Monday.

VOLLEYBALL

BROOKE POINT 3, RIVERBEND 1

Desiree Claxton had 14 kills, 15 digs and two aces, and Jasmine Jones supplied nine digs, six kills and three blocks for visiting Brooke Point in a 25–16, 8–25, 25–20, 25–17 Commonwealth District win.

Summer Rivera had nine digs, five kills and four aces, while Cori Jacobsen had 15 digs, three aces and two kills for the Black–Hawks (9–1, 6–1), who visit Gar–Field on Monday.

NORTH STAFFORD 3, ORANGE 0

Cheyenne Colley had six digs and Ebonie Hicks doled out 15 assists for North Stafford in a 25–22, 25–18, 25–19 Commonwealth District home win.

Kastlee Ashton added three digs, two kills and an ace for the Wolverines (6–5, 3–5), who host Stafford on Tuesday.

ALBEMARLE 3, COLONIAL FORGE 0

Savannah Scott had nine kills for visiting Colonial Forge, but Albemarle got a 25–23, 25–10, 25–17 Commonwealth District win. The Eagles (11–7, 7–1) host Mountain View on Tuesday.

MASSAPONAX 3, STAFFORD 0

Ashley Satterwhite had 11 digs and five assists, and Erica Cunningham provided 12 assists and two blocks to help visiting Massaponax get a 25–17, 25–11, 26–24 Commonwealth District win.

Colleen Beaver added four kills, four aces and three blocks, and Ashley Nimon chipped in seven digs for the Panthers (8–6, 4–4).

The Indians (5–7, 1–7) were led by Haley Parish with 10 digs, India Kithcart with eight digs and Jennifer Quintero with four kills.

On Tuesday, Stafford visits North Stafford and Massaponax travels to Brooke Point.

COURTLAND 3, CHANCELLOR 0

Anna Gallup had six kills and nine digs as the homestanding Cougars defeated their Battlefield District rivals 25–18, 25–17, 25–17.

Emily Jordan had four kills and three blocks, McKay Richardson made 11 digs and Bianca Rumbaugh had 17 assists for Courtland (7–3, 3–0), which travels to Riverbend on Monday.

Shea Sullivan had 17 kills and Riley Pates recorded seven digs for Chancellor (3–9, 2–1), which hosts Eastern View on Tuesday.

SPOTSYLVANIA 3, KING GEORGE 0

Calli Stott had 15 kills and three aces, and Caitlin Chmielewski added 21 assists and three kills for homestanding Spotsylvania in a 25–15, 25–7, 25–10 Battlefield District win.

Katie Graham provided nine digs and four kills, and Courtney Chmielewski totaled four aces, three kills and two blocks for the Knights (2–5, 2–1), who host Culpeper on Tuesday.

BISHOP IRETON 3, FCS 1

Marni Streeter had five kills and five aces for Fredericksburg Christian, but visiting Bishop Ireton took home a 25–18, 28–25, 25–16, 25–21 win. Gabby Vess totaled 18 kills for the Eagles (6–3), who visit St. Catherine’s on Tuesday.
