Prep Roundup: Back-and-forth match goes Panthers’ way

MEYER’S FOUR GOALS LEAD KING GEORGE TO FIELD HOCKEY WIN

VOLLYEBALL

MASSAPONAX 3, COURTLAND 2

Shannon Stefaniga had 26 digs and Ashley Satterwhite provided 25 assists to help Massaponax get a 13–25, 25–15, 17–25, 25–12, 15–13 nondistrict volleyball win at Courtland on Tuesday.

Rachel Jankovits totaled 12 kills and 16 digs, and Emilee Hill added 13 kills for the Panthers (7–4), who host Colonial Forge on Thursday.

Leaders for the Cougars (4–3) were: Jenna Hendley with 15 digs, Bianca Rumbaugh with 28 assists, and Josie Till and Anna Gallup with 11 kills each.

Courtland visits Culpeper tonight.

FREDERICKSBURG CHRISTIAN 3, EVANGEL 0

Gabby Vess had nine kills and Marnie Streeter six in Fredericksburg Christian’s 25–15, 25–16, 25–12 win.

Ashley Middleton had 22 assists for the Eagles (5–2), who host Central Virginia Home School on Thursday.

NORTH STAFFORD 3, FREEDOM 0

Alexandra Sosik’s eight kills and seven aces helped the Wolverines earn a nondistrict win in Woodbridge.

Abby Rosa added six kills and six aces, Tiffany Barrett had six kills and five assists and Cheyenne Colley had five aces for North Stafford (4–3), which visits Brooke Point on Tuesday.

FIELD HOCKEY

JAMES MONROE 12, SPOTSYLVANIA 0

Cleo Morris had a team-high four goals to lead James Monroe (4–0, 3–0) in a Battlefield District win.

L.C. King scored twice, and Mackenzie Atkins, Miranda Rigg, Hannah Fisher, Sarah Miller, Catesby Willis and Allison Black also had goals.

King, Rigg and Erin Cunningham had assists for the Jackets.

KING GEORGE 5, CULPEPER 1

Mia Meyer had four goals and Shelby King added one to lead visiting King George to a Battlefield District win.

Meghan Yanchulis had two assists and Elizabeth Hill, Shelby King and Lucy Shippee were strong on defense for the Foxes.

COURTLAND 2, EASTERN VIEW 1

Caitlin King and Taylor Ryan both scored as Courtland improved to 5–0 this season. Claire King added five saves in goal for the Cougars.

Anna Kate Tyler scored Eastern View’s lone goal.

Courtland faces Chancellor on Wednesday.

COLONIAL FORGE 5, ORANGE 0

Nikki Simpao had three goals to lead the Eagles to a Commonwealth District win.

Christine Reinaman and Ashley Vastano also scored, and Amy Dziekowicz and Kate Roberts had two assists each for Colonial Forge (5–1), which plays at Massaponax on Wednesday.

CHANCELLOR 10, CAROLINE 0

Chloe Fernandez had three goals, Allison Weiland had one goal and three assists, and Katherine Hull added three assists in Chancellor’s Battlefield District win.

Chelsea Galera and Kate Colley each scored twice, while Katie Jones and Kayla Peterson both notched their first varsity scores for the Chargers (3–0).

Galera and Greer Trainham provided an assist each for Chancellor, which visits Courtland on Wednesday.

Caroline goalie Paige Simulick registered 47 saves.

STAFFORD 6, MASSAPONAX 1

Lindsey Lysher had three goals and an assist in the Indians’ Commonwealth District win.

Natalie Bohmke, McKenzie Bowler and Gail Podlesney also scored, and Bohmke, Morgan French, Katie Deuell and Audre Braxton had assists.

Kiely Cloud scored for Massaponax.

Stafford (2–2) hosts Albemarle today.

RIVERBEND 2, NORTH STAFFORD 1 (OT)

Haley McMahon scored the overtime winner off an assist by Emily Michaelis for the Bears.

Reid Gough scored for North Stafford.

Lauren Liberman also had a goal for Riverbend (2–2), which hosts Mountain View today.

GOLF

KING GEORGE 177, CAROLINE 203

Amy Southall led the Foxes to a Battlefield District victory over Caroline at Mattaponi Springs Golf Club.

King George placed five of its six golfers in the 40s.

Caroline travels to Culpeper on Thursday.

    King George: Amy Southall 42, Mike Hunley 44, Kent Perkins 44, Andre Berry 47.

    Caroline: Hunter Houston 45, Gaby Rivera 50, Rory Smith 51, Morgan Franklin 57.
