Prep Roundup: Black-Hawks edge by Indians in field hockey

Brooke Point’s Kate Kennedy scored off a corner from Moca Donoso and Taylor Hayes also had a goal, leading the Black–Hawks’ field hockey team to a 2–1 win over Stafford in a Commonwealth District match on Thursday.

Cassie Hooghouse scored the Indians’ goal.

Maddie Davis made 18 stops and Caitlin Flinn had a defensive stick save for Brooke Point (4–1), which plays at North Stafford on Tuesday.

FIELD HOCKEY

MOUNTAIN VIEW 9, ALBEMARLE 0

Gretchen Geisler, Bailey McCarthy and Olivia Hubert had two goals each to help visiting Mountain View get a Commonwealth District win.

Emily Johnson, Caity Maffia and Camile Unruh each scored once for the Wildcats (5–0, 5–0), who visit Riverbend on Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALL

BROOKE POINT 3, STAFFORD 2

Visiting Stafford held a two-sets-to-one lead, but Brooke Point battled back to get a 26–24, 23–25, 22–25, 25–14, 15–9 Commonwealth District win.

Jasmine Jones had 12 kills, six blocks and four aces, and Desiree Claxton added 12 kills, 10 digs and two blocks for the Black–Hawks (5–1, 3–1). Lindsay Harrison totaled 14 digs defensively.

Brooke Point visits North Stafford on Tuesday.

India Kithcart had 19 kills, Jessie Gatanis 29 assists and Briana Graves seven aces for the Indians (3–4, 0–4), who host Albemarle on Tuesday.

ALBEMARLE 3, MOUNTAIN VIEW 0

Tori Larned had 13 blocks and Katy Garrity chipped in 35 digs for visiting Mountain View, but Albemarle captured a 25–12, 25–17,2 5–17 Commonwealth District win.

The Wildcats (1–4, 1–3) visit Riverbend on Tuesday.

MASSAPONAX 3, ORANGE 0

Ashley Satterwhite had 15 assists and four aces, and Erica Cunningham also had 15 assists to help visiting Massaponax get a 25–9, 25–11, 25–16 Battlefield District win.

Emilee Hill and Jessica Lee had seven and five kills, respectively, for the Panthers (7–4, 3–2), who take on Courtland on Monday.

LOUISA 3, CHANCELLOR 0

Emily Green had 11 assists for Chancellor, but visiting Louisa took home a 25–17, 32–30, 25–19 nondistrict win.

Riley Pates added nine assists and three aces for the Chargers (1–8), who visit King George on Tuesday.

COURTLAND 3, FCS 1

Emily Jordan had 14 kills, McKay Richardson recorded 23 digs and Bianca Rumbaugh had 40 assists as the Cougars picked up a 25–15, 25–22, 12–25, 25–14 nondistrict win over visiting Fredericksburg Christian.

Marybeth McBroom had eight kills, Anna Gallop and Josie Till added seven kills apiece and Amanda DePalma another five for Courtland (4–2), which hosts Massaponax on Monday.

Gabby Vess had 13 kills, Anrea Kuliasha five kills and Rachel Evans 10 digs for the Eagles (1–1), who host the FCS Invitational on Saturday.

GOLF

THREE-TEAM MATCH AT THE GAUNTLET

Riverbend had five golfers shoot under 40 as the Bears (150) beat Colonial Forge (172) and North Stafford (190).

Riverbend’s Michael Mead had an even-par 36. Devon Oeters shot a 37, Sameer Qader had a 38, and Andrew Mueller and Adel Hasan both had 39s.

The same three teams meet next Tuesday at Fawn Lake.

Riverbend (150: Michael Mead 36, Devon Oeters 37, Sameer Qader 38, Adel Hasan and Andrew Mueller 39.

TRI-MATCH AT LOW

Stafford’s Matt Turner carded a 38 to take individual medalist honors, but Mountain View (170) topped both Orange and the Indians—who both shot 180—in Commonwealth District action at Lake of the Woods.

King George’s Amy Southall was the individual medalist with a 43 in the Foxes’ Battlefield District win at Cameron Hills

BATTLEFIELD PREVIEW MEET AT KING GEORGE

Spotsylvania’s boys and King George’s girls earned team wins at the Battlefield District Preview meet on Wednesday.

The Knights’ Ted Bailey ran away to win the boys’ race by 29 seconds, while the Foxes Haley Armentrout won the girls race by 20 seconds.
