Betsy Carter’s Horse Scene: Rose Mount plans busy show
The Battlefield Horse Show Association will hold its biggest show of the season at Rose Mount Farm in Spotsylvania this Saturday. The show will feature both hunter and jumper classes, so two riding rings will be running simultaneously, which will leave the third ring for all day schooling.
The show, which begins at 8:30 a.m., allows schooling in the hunter ring from 7 until 8:15. The jumper ring allows schooling from 7:30 until 8:45 and the show begins at 9.
In the hunter ring, The California Warm Up will be permitted throughout the day. If you want to practice over the jumps and ride around the grounds to acclimate your horse, it will cost $15 per horse—unless you are leasing a stall for the duration of the show. Stalls are available for $40. Bedding is not provided.
The hunter section of the show offers 42 classes of the usual range including leadline, short stirrup pleasure, all the pony classes, maiden, green, low, schooling, children, adults, amateurs and working hunters.
There are three schooling breaks planned during the schedule of classes: at the end of class 10, student equitation, after class 16 at the conclusion of horse pleasure, and after class 32, low under saddle.
The jumper ring offers 21 classes including puddle jumper, novice, low, children/adults, schooling and modified. Jump heights range from 2–3 feet to 4 feet. Prize money is awarded in the jumper classes through fourth place.
For class 18, schooling jumper, there will be an added $75 in prize money and class 21 is the $100 added modified jumper.
If you plan to show in both the jumper and hunter classes, you will have to work out the timing to be prepared for the scheduling of classes.
