Prep Roundup: Late goal lifts Eagles to win

FIELD HOCKEY

COLONIAL FORGE 2, BROOKE POINT 1

Ashley Vastano scored off a Nikki Simpao assist with less than four minutes to play to break a 1–1 tie and lead homestanding Colonial Forge to a 2–1 Commonwealth District field hockey win against Brooke Point on Tuesday.

Simpao scored the Eagles’ first goal 10 minutes after Liz Washington gave the Black–Hawks the early lead off a Natalie Morgan pass five minutes into the contest.

Maddie Davis had 18 saves in goal and Caitlin Flinn recorded three defensive saves for Brooke Point (3–1), which hosts Stafford on Thursday.

Colonial Forge (4–1) travels to Orange on Monday.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 10, ORANGE 0

Caty Maffia scored three goals to lift Mountain View over Orange in Commonwealth District action.

Bailey McCarthy, Morgan Lowry and Olivia Hubert each had two goals.

Camille Unruh had one goal and Gretchen Geisler had three assists for the Wildcats (4–0, 4–0), who travel to Albemarle on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

RIVERBEND 3, STAFFORD 0

Becca Statler had 24 digs, four aces and two kills, and Danielle Dieters added 15 assists and two aces to help Riverbend secure a 25–13, 25–13, 25–11 Commonwealth District win.

Other leaders for the Bears (4–1, 2–1) were Brittany Jacobs with four kills, two blocks and two aces; Miranda Mitchell with three kills, three digs and three aces; Anna Torres with three kills, three digs and two aces; Brett Pettus with four kills and two digs; and Shadae Strother with four kills.

Visiting Stafford (2–3, 0–3) was led by Haley Parish with seven digs, India Kithcart with five kills and Jessie Gatanis with 14 assists.

Tonight, the Indians host James Monroe and Riverbend hosts North Stafford.

COLONIAL FORGE 3, BROOKE PONT 1

Brooke Sanders had 12 kills and 18 assists, and Hope Kelley totaled 12 kills, nine aces and 12 digs to help homestanding Colonial Forge get a 25–22, 25–22, 24–26, 25–17 Commonwealth District win.

Other leaders for the Eagles were Leandra Tranquill with seven kills and two blocks; Presley Maghan with 13 assists; and Jenna Ulizio with four aces and seven digs.

Desiree Claxton had four aces, six digs and eight kills for the Black–Hawks.

Lindsay Harrison had 13 digs alongside Brooke Nieset, who had 10 for Brooke Point (4–1, 2–1), which hosts Stafford on Thursday.

GIRLS TENNIS

FRED. ACADEMY 7, COVENANT SCHOOL 0

Fredericksburg Academy earned shutout victories in three matches en route to a win over visiting Covenant School.
