Prep Roundup: First-half goal gives Bears victory

RIVERBEND 1, ORANGE 0

Emily Michaelis tallied the game’s only goal off an assist from Haley McMahon in the first half and the defense made the lead stand up in Riverbend’s 1–0 Commonwealth District field hockey win at Orange on Thursday.

Taylor Sullivan and Amelia White, along with goalie Sophie Boothby led the defensive effort for the Bears (1–2, 1–2), who host Stafford on Tuesday.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 6, MASSAPONAX 0

Caity Maffia scored three goals to pace the visiting Wildcats over the Panthers in a Commonwealth District game.

Morgan Lowry, Bryce Barnes and Olivia Hubert each had a goal apiece. Emily Reinwald, Emily Johnson and Gretchen Geisler contributed assists for Mountain View (3–0), which hosts Orange on Tuesday.

GOLF

TRI-MATCH AT FAWN LAKE

Adel Hasan shot an even-par 36 to win medalist honors and Riverbend (150) beat Stafford (183) and Massaponax (185) in a nine-hole match between Commonwealth District foes.

Sameer Qader had a 37 and Devon Oeters added a 38 for the Bears.

Riverbend will play next Thursday at the Gauntlet against North Stafford and Colonial Forge.

TRI-MATCH AT OLD TRAIL

Albemarle and Western Albemarle both shot 151 to tie for first place, while Orange came in third with a score of 175.

Western’s Hunter Weis carded a three-under par 33 to earn individual medalist honors.

Culpeper’s Charlie Peavely and Johnnie Mealia both shot 39 to tie for individual medalist honors and lead the Blue Devils to a win at Cameron Hills Golf Course.
