Prep Roundup: Chargers open with win

FIELD HOCKEY

CHANCELLOR 7, KING GEORGE 0

Chloe Fernandez had three goals and two assists, and Greer Trainham scored twice as homestanding Chancellor scored all seven goals in the first half of its 7–0 Battlefield District field hockey win against visiting King George on Wednesday.

Chelsea Galera and Kenzie Neylon also scored, while Kate Colley (two), Jordan Rasure and Katherine Hull provided assists for the Chargers (1–0, 1–0), who host Culpeper on Wednesday.

King George goalie Jackie Gover made 35 save.

COURTLAND 2, CULPEPER 0

Emily Zaluzney had two goals to help visiting Courtland get a Battlefield District win.

Maddy Saraceno earned an assist for the Cougars (3–0, 1–0), who entertain Spotsylvania on Wednesday.

SPOTSYLVANIA 4, CAROLINE 2

Hannah Harris, Gianna Castellino, Logan Wolfe and Kate Leigh each scored as homestanding Spotsylvania opened its season with a Battlefield District win.

Kacey Payne and Wolfe had assists, while Julisa Aguila, Brittany Hayden and Caroline Sorrell provided solid defensive play for the Knights.

VOLLEYBALL

CAROLINE 3, WASHINGTON & LEE 0

Ayana Clayton had 10 assists, eight aces and four kills to help Caroline get a 25–20, 25–19, 25–10 nondistrict win against visiting Washington & Lee.

Tanisha Washington added six kills, four aces and three blocks, and Brooke Brooks chipped in 19 digs for the Cavaliers.

RIVERBEND 3, CHANCELLOR 0

Becca Statler had 19 digs and four aces, and Brett Pettus added seven kills and two aces to help Riverbend get a 25–11, 25–12, 25–13 nondistrict home win.

Other leaders for the Bears (2–1) were: Miranda Mitchell with five digs, four kills and two aces; Shadae Strother with three kills and two blocks; and Danielle Deiters with 17 assists, five digs and four aces.

Riverbend visits Orange tonight.

TUESDAY’S RESULTS

VOLLEYBALL

KING GEORGE 3, COLONIAL BEACH 0

King George swept Colonial Beach, 25–22, 25–11, 25–17, in a nondistrict match.

Lea Howard had eight aces and 17 assists to pace King George. Alli Trainum added eight kills and two aces, Lauren Howard had 11 digs, and Amber Smith finished with seven kills.
