High school roundup: Black-Hawks remain unbeaten

Nia Cox doled out 24 assists, and Cori Jacobsen had 15 digs and three aces to help Brooke Point get a 25–13, 16–25, 25–11, 25–18 Commonwealth District volleyball win over visiting Orange on Monday.

Desiree Claxton added 14 digs and six kills, while Jasmine Jones provided 10 kills, seven digs and six blocks for the Black-Hawks (3–0, 2–0).

Summer Rivera and Kailah Boateng also played well for Brooke Point, which hosts Gar-Field on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

COLONIAL FORGE 3,

RIVERBEND 1

Maddie Scovell had 14 kills, 11 digs and five aces, and Hope Kelley totaled 17 digs and 13 kills to help Colonial Forge get a 25–20, 25–13, 24–26, 25–18 Commonwealth District home win.

Jenna Ulizio had 19 digs and three aces, Brooke Sanders had 27 assists and seven kills, and Leandra Tranquill added five kills and three blocks for the Eagles.

Leaders for the Bears (1–1, 0–1) were: Danielle Deiters with 26 assists, seven digs, five kills and two aces; Miranda Mitchell with 11 digs, seven kills and two aces; Becca Statler with 17 digs and two kills, Ana Torres with 13 digs, four kills and four aces; and Nicole Sarmento with five digs and two aces.

Riverbend hosts Chancellor on Wednesday, while Colonial Forge visits Stafford on Thursday.

STAFFORD 3, KING GEORGE 1

Briana Graves had eight kills and India Kithcart added nine digs to help visiting Stafford get a 25–20, 25–13, 21–25, 25–11 nondistrict win.

Kristen Weadon chipped in with six assists for the Indians (2–1), who host Colonial Forge on Thursday.

NORTH STAFFORD 3,

MOUNTAIN VIEW 1

Abby Rosa finished with nine aces and nine kills, and Tiffany Barrett racked up 11 digs and eight kills for visiting North Stafford in s 25–22, 15–25, 25–18, 25–23 Commonwealth District win.

Christine Jackson provided 12 digs and three aces, and Alex Sosik added 15 digs and six kills for the Wolverines (3–0, 2–0), who host Albemarle on Thursday.

WEST POINT 3,

COLONIAL BEACH 0

McKenzie Conway had a solid match setting and Rachael Allison provided three aces for visiting Colonial Beach, but West Point earn a 25–21, 25–13, 25–13 nondistrict win.

The Drifters (0–1) visit King George Tuesday.

FIELD HOCKEY

MOUNTAIN VIEW 10,

NORTH STAFFORD 0

Olivia Hubert had three goals to lead Mountain View in a Commonwealth District victory.

Caity Mafia, Bryce Barnes and Bailey McCarthy scored two goals each and Morgan Skavdahl also had a goal for the Wildcats, whose defensive back four didn’t allow a corner the entire match.

Mountain View (2–0) plays at Massaponax on Thursday.

BROOKE POINT 5, ORANGE 0

Liz Washington scored four goals as Brooke Point improved to 3–0 in the Commonwealth District.

Rachael Payne also scored, and Kristen Johnson, Natalie Morgan and Kate Kennedy had assists.

Brooke Point plays at Colonial Forge next Tuesday.

COLONIAL FORGE 5, RIVERBEND 0

Lauren Vastano, Nikki Simpal, Ashley Vastano, Christine Reinaman and Amy Dzidekowicz all had goals for the Eagles in a Commonwealth District win.

Colonial Forge (2–1) plays at Stafford on Thursday.

FCS 4, POPE JOHN PAUL 4

Gerard Sala netted three goals and David Schools one as visiting Fredericksburg Christian opened its season with a tie against Pope John Paul the Great.

The Eagles (0–0–1) take on Hampton Roads Academy on Sept. 4.

GOLF

JM 187, CAROLINE 195

Marsden Dyson fired a one-under par 35 to lead James Monroe over home-standing Caroline in Battlefield District play on the front side at Mattaponi Springs Golf Club. Dyson sunk three birdies in a row at one point.

The Cavaliers visit Chancellor on Thursday.
