Baseball: Locals in the pros

  • King George grad Damion Carroll earned his first professional win Monday with two scoreless innings in the Gulf Coast League Rays’ 5–2 win over a team of Red Sox rookies. Through four appearances, he is 1–0 with a 1.80 ERA, albeit with eight walks and three strikeouts.

  • North Stafford grad John Maine earned two wins last week for Triple-A Scranton–Wilkes–Barre, pitching six strong innings Sunday against Syracuse and five Friday at Gwinnett. He’s 4–3 with a 6.15 ERA.
  • Colonial Forge grad Jarrett Parker is on a nine-game hitting streak at Class-A San Jose, raising his average to .241 with eight homers, 33 RBIs and 18 steals.
  • Spotsylvania High School graduate Cody Wheeler is 3–0 with a 2.08 ERA in seven starts for Class-A Yakima (Wash.).
  • Mountain View grad Kyle Haynes earned two saves for Class-A State College (Pa.) last week. He has a 4.63 ERA and three saves in nine relief outings.
  • Colonial Forge grad Levi Hyams is batting .183 at Class-A Danville with three homers and 15 RBIs.
  • Stafford grad Adam Lopez has a 6.00 ERA in three relief appearances for Class-A Bristol.
  • University of Mary Washington grad Parker Talbert is 2–1 with a 6.75 ERA for the Alpine Cowboys of the independent Pecos League. Brooke Point grad Evan Houde has a 7.72 ERA in three outings.
