Recreation Note: Clark wins state discus, shot put titles
Alexis Clark, a rising seventh-grader at Walker–Grant Middle School in Fredericksburg, recently captured U.S. Track and Field Virginia Association championships in the shot put and discus.
Alexis, who competed in the 11–12-year-old division, is a repeat champion in both events.
Her throw of 36 feet, 9 inches won the shot put competition over boys and girls.
She threw the discus 92 feet, 10 inches. The wins advance Alexis to USATF Regionals at Christopher Newport University July 5–8.
Alexis is also set to compete in the AAU National Club Championships July 11–13 in Orlando, Fla. The discus record for her age group in that event is 89 feet, 11 inches.
