June 25: Public meeting on early season migratory game bird hunting regulations, 7–9 p.m., Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, 4010 West Broad Street, Richmond. Discussion of federal frameworks and potential hunting regulations for 2012–13 webless migratory game bird seasons (dove, woodcock, snipe, rail) and for the September Canada goose and September teal seasons.

July 30: Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries’ public Meeting on Waterfowl Hunting Regulations. 7–9 p.m., 4010 West Broad Street, Richmond. Discussion of federal frameworks and potential hunting regulations for 2012–13 waterfowl seasons (ducks, geese, swans, brant, coots, gallinules and moorhens).

Sept. 8: Deer Hunter Education. Caledon Natural Area Pavilion, King George County. 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Designed to teach safe, basic and advanced strategies for successful deer hunting. Mix of classroom and practical field instruction. Taught by certified Hunter Education Safety Instructors and DGIF personnel. Includes ethics, gear & guns/bows, stands & blinds, deer sign & stand selection, and more. Class ends with actual field dressing and butchering of a deer. Call Rick Wilks, 540/775-4625

TOURNAMENTS

Through Aug. 24: High Point Marina Friday night tournaments. 6:30–9:30 p.m. $30/boat entry with 100 percent payback in prizes. Season ends with annual “classic” on Sept. 29. Call 540/895 5249.

HUNTER EDUCATION CLASSES

All hunter education classes at the Quantico Rod and Gun Club have been cancelled due to access issues with the facility.
