Amateur Soccer: Hotspur fall to United Under 23

The Fredericksburg Hotspur took an early a 1–0 lead, but the D.C. United Under-23 team rallied to get a 3–1 exhibition win at the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday.

Gene Daniels scored in the sixth minute off a corner kick from Ryan Sappington for Fredericksburg. D.C. tallied twice before the half before adding an insurance goal in the 79th minute.

Goalies Ryan Taylor and Colin Newcity combined to make seven saves, as the Hotspur showed great improvement over last year’s 8–1 loss.

Fredericksburg returns to Premier Development League action on Friday when it hosts the Real Maryland Monarchs at 6 p.m on Friday.
