Mountain View grad signs with Pirates

Former Mountain View High School baseball standout Kyle Haynes has signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates and will pass up his senior season at VCU.

Haynes, a right-handed pitcher, was the Pirates’ 20th-round selection in last week’s draft. He has been assigned to the State College (Pa.) Spikes of the rookie New York-Pennsylvania League, which opens play next week.

Haynes joins Colonial Forge graduate Levi Hyams (Braves) and Stafford grad Adam Lopez (White Sox) in signing after being drafted. King George’s Damion Carroll is expected to sign with the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, and Orange grad D.J. Brown is reportedly weighing an offer from Cleveland against returning to James Madison University.
