Carroll, Rays agree to terms
Former King George High School baseball standout Damion Carroll has agreed to contract terms with the Tampa Bay Rays pending the result of a physical, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations.
Carroll, a 6-foot-3, right-handed pitcher, is flying to Tampa, Fla. Wednesday. He’s set to take a physical Thursday. If all goes well, Carroll is expected to sign a seven-year deal with a $190,000 signing bonus on Saturday at King George’s graduation ceremony, the source said.
The source added that Carroll’s contract includes a four-year college scholarship.
Carroll helped lead King George to an appearance in the Group AA state baseball tournament this past season, going 8-0 with a 1.30 ERA and 131 strikeouts in 66 innings.
He was recently named the Virginia High School Coaches Association Group AA state player of the year.
