Albemarle’s girls soccer team outscored Mountain View 4–3 in penalty kicks to earn a 2–1 win Thursday in the Commonwealth District tournament semifinals.
Nicole Burkhardt scored with 10 minutes left in regulation to tie the game for the Wildcats.
Morgan Skavdahl made 16 saves for Mountain View (9–5–4).
BASEBALL
Spotsylvania 5, Eastern View 4
Spotsylvania scored five runs in the first three innings and held on to beat Eastern View.
Trevor Talley drove in three runs for Spotsylvania (13–6, 10–3), and Eastern View’s Ben Pittman connected on a pair of doubles to drive in two runs.
Spotsylvania’s Josh Ewing struck out six for the win, and Tanner May recorded nine strikeouts for Eastern View, which will face Culpeper today to decide the fourth seed in the Battlefield District playoffs.

Andrew Oakes scored twice four Courtland (11–1– 2), which clinched the Battlefield’s regular-season crown.
Luke Taylor, Colby Hendricks, Jacob Patterson and Alex Cimini added goals for Courtland.
Mahmaud Mwofy netted Caroline’s lone goal.
GIRLS TENNIS
COURTLAND 5, CULPEPER 2
Courtland’s Emily Lett and Katie Stine earned a doubles win on Thursday to clinch the Cougars’ 5–2 win against Culpeper in the Battlefield District Tournament consolation match.
The victory sealed a Region I tournament berth for Courtland (11–7).
Senior Marisa Morales won a key three-hour singles match for Courtland, which plays at York on Monday in the Region I quarterfinals.
