Betsy Carter’s Horse Scene: By streamlining events, show has more to offer

I happened across a prize list I had never seen and thought it was interesting, so I thought I would share it with you. It’s interesting because it has a class schedule unlike other shows and because the lineup of judges is great.

The show is South Run at 14005 Fitzwater Drive in Nokesville, which is close to the Fredericksburg area.

The class schedule includes many of the usual classes but has eliminated Green Pony and Green Hunter horse and has added Schooling hunter and Equitation on the flat at walk, trot and canter. In the Equitation classes, there will be a separate class for 14 and under, one for 15–17 and one for adults. Theses Equitation classes are not part of the other equitation classes such as pony equitation or childrens/adult equitation.

To keep the show running smoothly and more quickly, they have also eliminated one of the two mid-program schooling breaks but added the option of a California warm-up all day. To give exhibitors more incentive to become the champions of their divisions, prizes at each and every show will be awarded to those division champions who win the “Lucky Duck Draw.”

The show dates and judges are: April 1, Erin Mitchell; May 20, Oliver Brown; June 17, Mark Wonderly; July 15, Glen Moody; Aug. 12, Kevin Freeman; Sept. 16, Dale Crittenberger; and Oct. 7, Linda Reynolds. Start time is 9 a.m.; class fees are $12; grounds fee $10. For more information, call 571/224-8486.
