Janae McNeal, who led Courtland to the Division 4 girls basketball state championship game, was named to the Group AA all-state team by the Virginia High School Coaches Association.

McNeal, a junior forward, averaged a team-high 20.6 points per game for the Cougars, who finished 30–1. Their only loss came to three-time state champion Millbrook in the state final.

Courtland senior Anika Trent (15.2 points per game) was named to the all-state second team, along with James Monroe senior Keyontae Williams (20.1).

James Monroe senior center Te’Quan Alers was named to the boys all-state second team and chosen for the all-star game. He averaged 17.3 points per game in helping the Yellow Jackets reach the state tournament for the first time in nearly 40 years.
