Know your opponent …

Just a little research so we can get to know region champion opponents for this Saturday:

Northwest Region, Division 6:

BATTLEFIELD AT COLONIAL FORGE, 1 p.m.

The Bobcats avenged one of their two regular-season losses by drilling Hylton, 48-14. Here’s the Potomac New’s game story from last Friday night.

Northwest Region, Division 5:

MOUNTAIN VIEW AT OSBOURN, 1:30 p.m.

These two have already met this year: Osbourn beat Mountain View, 33-20, back on Sept. 10. Most folks regard Mountain View as the underdog in this one … more on that later in the week.

Region I, Division 4:

EASTERN VIEW AT COURTLAND, 1:30 p.m.

Another rematch from earlier this season, when Courtland surprised the Cyclones in a 24-14 victory-the second win in the Cougars’ current seven-game winning streak.  The 14 points scored were the fewest Eastern View managed all season.

Courtland’s defense was great last Saturday against Grafton. They’ll have to be great again this Saturday.

Region I, Division 3:

JAMES MONROE AT POQUOSON, 1:30 p.m.

Yeah! A third straight weekend in the Tidewater for me … this time to see James Monroe.

A Daily Press reporter and I talked a bunch about this game Saturday night, and we managed to reach a consensus: If JM can make it a high-scoring game, Poquoson will have a hard time keeping up. Otherwise, expect this one to be close. James Monroe’s defense is very, very good. … the question in my mind remains the Jackets’ health – lots and lots of dinged up players.

Since this is all about opponents, here’s the Daily Press’s game story from Poquoson-Nottoway last weekend. Nottoway actually led at the half before Poquoson pulled away.

I also found video highlights from their Region I semifinal, if studying film is your thing …
