Courtland-Eastern View for the Region I, Division 4 title
I asked Courtland football coach J.C. Hall what he would have said if, after the Cougars had started 0-4, someone had told him his team would play for the Region I, Division 4 championship.
“I’d have punched them in the face and said, ‘What are you thinking about?’ ”
The Cougars showed off some resiliency tonight and rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to beat Grafton, 14-13. Courtland will host Eastern View next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the region final.
Courtland’s defense played exceptionally well, and kept the Cougars in the game when the offense was struggling. The Courtland attack basically came down to two pass plays: the first a wide receiver screen to Wahid Moore in the third quarter that Moore turned into a 40-yard touchdown. The second was a deep third-down post pass to Moore, whose 46-yard catch set up Kirk Wilson’s game-winning two-yard touchdown run in the final two minutes.
Otherwise, Courtland managed 79 rushing yards on 30 carries, and two other completions.
Clearly: J.C. Hall is livin’ right.
Or at least his football team is.
