Fred Davis was fined by the league last week after he drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for excessively celebrating his touchdown reception in the first quarter of the Redskins’ preseason opener over Titans, a league spokesman confirmed.
Davis, who was fined $7,875, caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins and celebrated it by falling to the grass and shaking. He later told reporters the celebration “was dumb” and that he should plan out his antics more carefully.
The league also fined safety Bacarri Rambo $7,875 after he was penalized for unnecessary roughness when he shoved Titans running back Shonn Greene out of the back of the end zone following his 19-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.
And defensive end Chris Baker earned the largest fine when he was docked $15,750 for hitting quarterback Rusty Smith below the knees in the fourth quarter. Smith threw an incompletion on third-and-14 on that play, but the penalty extended the drive and led to a touchdown reception and extra point that tied the score at 14.
One Titans player was also fined, according to NFL.com: defensive end Nigel Nicholas, who had to give back $15,750 for a late hit on quarterback Pat White in the fourth quarter.
