London Fletcher, Ryan Kerrigan Selected To Pro Bowl
By ZAC BOYER
London Fletcher and Ryan Kerrigan were each named to the NFC’s Pro Bowl team on Sunday, meaning four players will represent the Washington Redskins in the NFL’s annual all-star game.
The linebackers will each make the trip to Honolulu this week to replace San Francisco’s Patrick Willis and Aldon Smith, who were originally selected to play in the game but will not be able to after the 49ers defeated Atlanta on Sunday.
Fletcher, making his fourth consecutive appearance in the game, had a team-high 139 tackles and intercepted a career-high five passes this past season. He played the final seven games of the season with a high left ankle sprain, occasionally missing practices but never a game.
Kerrigan, selected for the first time in his two seasons, had 54 tackles, 8.5 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble in 2012.
Running back Alfred Morris was not selected to replace the 49ers’ Frank Gore despite previously being announced by the team as the first alternate. Instead, that position was held by Tampa Bay’s Doug Martin, who edged out his fellow rookie for the honor.
Left tackle Trent Williams and linebacker Lorenzo Alexander, selected as a special teams player, will join Fletcher and Kerrigan in making the trip.
Quarterback Robert Griffin III was previously named to the team, but will not play after undergoing right knee surgery and was replaced by New Orleans’ Drew Brees.
The game will be played at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu on Sunday.
