Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan had money and his passport stolen out of the Heinz Field locker room on Oct. 28 when the team visited Pittsburgh.

Ed Burke, the Redskins’ director of security, confirmed that the items were stolen in a statement released by the team early Thursday morning. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review originally reported the story on Tuesday and said the items were later found, but Burke disputed that claim in the statement.

“The Pittsburgh Police insisted on filing a police report because of the missing passport,” Burke’s statement read, in part. “There is an ongoing investigation. The missing property was not stowed in another bag as reported.”

According to the newspaper, a leather briefcase that contained $3,700 and Shanahan’s passport were missing from a locker after the game. Shanahan chose to file a police report and officers met with Burke, but, the newspaper reported, the police report was withdrawn the next day by either Shanahan or someone else affiliated with the team when the contents were found.

Shanahan did not want to speak about the incident Thursday at Redskins Park, citing the ongoing investigation, and declined to clarify whether the items were indeed later found.
