Alfred Morris Nominated For Rookie Of The Week After Loss To Giants
A Washington Redskins rookie has been nominated for a weekly award, and for the first time, it’s not quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Running back Alfred Morris is a candidate for the Pepsi Max Rookie of the Week, the NFL announced Tuesday, after he rushed for a season-high 120 yards on 22 carries in the Redskins’ 27-23 road loss to the New York Giants.
Morris is averaging 94 yards a game this season and 4.8 yards a carry, and his season-low of 47 yards came against Minnesota on Oct. 14. He has also caught five passes for 35 yards, including two for 10 yards against the Giants.
Also nominated for the award were New England linebacker Dont’a Hightower, Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck, Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin and Minnesota safety Harrison Smith.
Voting is conducted online at NFL.com/rookies. Those who win the weekly award will be eligible to win the Pepsi Max Rookie of the Year Award, which will be announced in February.
Griffin has won the weekly award three times this season, while Luck has won twice and Cleveland running back Trent Richardson has won it once.
