Mike Shanahan: Pierre Garçon ‘A Long Shot’ To Play Sunday Against Giants
ASHBURN – Mike Shanahan said receiver Pierre Garçon is unlikely to play against the New York Giants on Sunday as he tried to rest a sprained toe in his right foot.
“I’m not going to call him definitely out, but it’s a long shot right now,” the head coach said.
Garçon did not attend practice, and Shanahan said it was unlikely he’d do so Friday, either, as the team attempts to keep him off his feet.
“We want to get that foot well, and the only way we’re going to get it well is to rest him,” Shanahan said. “I’m not going to call him definitely out, but it’s a long shot right now.”
The receiver has been battling inflammation in the toe since the season opener at New Orleans on Sept. 9. Shanahan said Garçon was given a painkilling shot Wednesday to assist with the pain, though it was much more localized than anything he received when he tried to play through the pain earlier in the season.
“Initially, we thought it was going to be a couple days and it would get better,” Shanahan said. “Obviously, it hasn’t gotten better. It’s gotten a little bit worse, and we’re going to give him some rest and hopefully, with a few days’ rest, he’ll feel a lot better.”
