ASHBURN – The NFL announced on Thursday that Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was named the Offensive Rookie of the Month for September.

Griffin III
Griffin, taken No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft in April, has completed 86 of 124 passes with four touchdowns and an interception, and he has also carried the ball 41 times for 234 yards and four touchdowns.
His 103.2 quarterback rating ranks second in the NFL and his 69.4 completion percentage ranks third. He’s also the leading rusher amongst all quarterbacks, and his 6.5 yards per carry are second only to Buffalo running back C.J. Spiller amongst all rushers with at least 30 attempts.
“I think offensively we’ve done a good job of moving the ball,” Griffin said Wednesday. “In every game we’ve put up a lot of yards. We’ve just got to make sure we continue to try to put up more and more points. And then the game – it’s still football. It’s fun. It’s a lot more fun winning, and it’s always that way, but it’s still football and it’s a dream come true to play at the highest level.”
Running back Alfred Morris, who has 376 yards and four touchdowns on 82 carries, was also a candidate for the award. He is tied for first in the league in rushing touchdowns and ranks fifth in rushing yards.
Left tackle Chris Samuels was the last Redskins player to win the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month award when he did so in October 2000. Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan was named the Defensive Rookie of the Month last September.
