Redskins, NFL Begin Observance Of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Washington Redskins will promote breast cancer awareness on Sunday for their home game against Atlanta, continuing a month-long observance led by the NFL and the NFL Players Association.

Players will wear pink equipment, including cleats, gloves, wristbands and sideline caps, and use balls with pink ribbon decals and pink kicking tees. Officials will wear also wear pink equipment and use pink whistles, and a pink coin will be utilized for the pre-game coin toss.

Cheerleaders will wear pink shirts and use pink pompoms, the padding in the end zone will be pink and a pink ribbon will be painted on the field. Ribbons and other educational materials will also be given out to fans during the game.

The NFL’s annual campaign, “A Crucial Catch,” is focused on the importance of annual screenings for women. Some items worn by players on the field will be auctioned off to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
