Robert Griffin III Adds Two More Honors, Including Rookie Of The Week
ASHBURN – Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was named the NFL Rookie of the Week and the FedEx Air Player of the Week after throwing for 320 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-32 victory at New Orleans on Sunday.
Griffin, named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, became the first player in NFL history to throw for at least 300 yards and two touchdowns without an interception in his debut.
He was the first Redskins player to be named Rookie of the Week since linebacker Brian Orakpo, who earned that honor in Week 14 of the 2009 season. Former safety Chris Horton also earned the honor in Week 4 of the 2008 season.
As part of the FedEx Air Player of the Week award, which complements the FedEx Ground Player of the Week award won by Buffalo running back C.J. Spiller, a $2,000 donation will be made in Griffin’s name to the Washington branch of Junior Achievement.
