ASHBURN – Former Arizona cornerback Crezdon Butler posted messages on his Twitter account Saturday afternoon that he was claimed off waivers by the Washington Redskins – a claim head coach Mike Shanahan later confirmed.
Butler, a fifth-round pick out of Clemson in 2010, only played one game for the Cardinals last season. He played in four for Pittsburgh in his rookie season and made one tackle.
The cornerback sent a tweet to defensive end Jarvis Jenkins, a former teammate of his at Clemson, that he had joined the team. When asked by Blake Gideon, an Arizona safety who was also cut, whether he was claimed by the Redskins, Butler said he was.
Washington cut its roster to 52 players when rosters needed to be finalized Friday night, leaving one spot open. It kept only four cornerbacks – DeAngelo Hall, Josh Wilson, Cedric Griffin and rookie Richard Crawford – and cut the only two others on its training camp roster, David Jones and Brandyn Thompson.
