Mike Shanahan Outlines Plan For Robert Griffin III’s Preseason
ASHBURN – Despite being a rookie, Robert Griffin III will not see any additional game time in the preseason than the rest of the Washington Redskins’ starters.
Head coach Mike Shanahan said Griffin is likely to play the first 12 to 20 plays of the preseason opener at Buffalo on Aug. 9. He’ll play the first half at Chicago on Aug. 18, into the third quarter on Aug. 25 against Indianapolis and likely not at all Aug. 29 against Tampa Bay.
“That’s what I’ve done in the past, and it probably won’t be too far from it this year,” Shanahan said.
Shanahan doesn’t want to commit to playing Griffin any more than necessary in the preseason even though it will be his first opportunity to play in NFL games.
The preseason begins Sunday, when New Orleans and Arizona play in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
